Find the photographs worth keeping.

Lumo is a private, on-device photo culling and search app that scores every frame, groups near-identical shots, and helps photographers go from an overwhelming shoot to an edit-ready shortlist — without their photos ever leaving the device.

What is Lumo?

The calm workspace between capture and editing

Photographers return from a trip or shoot with far more frames than they need: bursts, duplicates, missed focus and near-identical versions of the same moment. Lumo reads RAW and JPEG folders or the Photos library, scores technical quality, groups similar frames and proposes a shortlist.

It is not a RAW developer and does not replace Lightroom, Capture One or Photoshop. Lumo helps you select, find, frame and finish — then hands the photographs to the editor you already use.

The score is an assistant, not an authority

Lumo measures sharpness, exposure, tonal contrast and resolution relative to the rest of the shoot. A deliberately soft night photograph may score badly and still be the frame you keep. The final call is always yours.

A light table, not a dashboard

Less work from shoot to finish

Four clear outcomes organise the experience and keep the tool focused on the photographer’s next decision.

01 · SELECT

Review every shoot

Score, group and compare frames with unlimited smart culling through Lumo Pro.

02 · FIND

Locate the frame you remember

Search by subject, scene, visible text, metadata or place without uploading a photograph.

03 · FRAME

Compare stronger compositions

Level the horizon, protect the subject and review crop suggestions while preserving the original.

04 · FINISH

Continue in your editor

Open an original or approved derivative in Photoshop, Lightroom or any editor you choose.

How it works

From a full card to a useful shortlist

Point Lumo at a folder

RAW or JPEG, straight off the card or years old. Scanning is read-only and never changes the source.

Review the suggestions

Filter by keepers, duplicates, alternatives or frames that need your eye. On Mac, arrow through and press space to keep.

File the keepers

Move the shortlist or clear the rest only after confirmation, with recoverable defaults and a written report.

Capabilities

A photographic workflow that stays local

Smart culling

Every frame receives a 0–100 technical score built from sharpness, exposure, tonal contrast and resolution.

  • Population-relative scoring within the shoot
  • Exact duplicate and similar-frame grouping
  • RAW/JPEG companions and XMP sidecars stay together
  • Recommendations never auto-delete

Local photo search

Type a natural-language query and receive ranked, explained matches from indexed folders and the Photos library.

  • Subject, scene, visible text and metadata
  • Place and filename matching
  • Search in any of the 12 shipped languages
  • Saved searches become Smart Collections

Composition Assist

Compare up to three labelled proposals without changing the original until you explicitly approve a result.

  • Original refined, Recommended and Creative
  • Crop, pan, zoom, ratio and straighten controls
  • Non-destructive recipes
  • Batch Compose still requires a choice per photo

Editor handoff & Delivery Studio

Continue in your preferred editor or package the exact keeper set for delivery.

  • No plug-in required
  • JPEG/TIFF presets and safe filename templates
  • Optional PDF contact sheet
  • Original files are never overwritten
Safety by design

Your originals stay yours

Lumo treats file safety as a product pillar rather than a subscription feature.

Read-only scanning

Nothing in the source folder is touched during analysis. Recommendations never equal deletion.

Only confirmed moves

Keepers are filed into a timestamped folder; alternatives and low scorers stay where they were.

Recoverable by default

Deleted files go to Trash or Recently Deleted, and a quick delete can be undone for 30 seconds.

A written operation report

Every completed action is recorded in a lumo-report.json file that remains with the folder.

Completed-folder protection

Lumo recognises finished folders and blocks a second destructive pass until you reopen the review.

Safety never expires

Originals, reports, undo and completed work remain available even if a Pro subscription lapses.

Privacy

Local storage only

Your photos never leave your device. There are no accounts, uploads, analytics, telemetry, crash-reporting services or advertising.

One narrow, optional exception

The first place-name search explains Apple’s geocoding service and asks for consent. If allowed, Apple receives only the place query or one representative coordinate — never a photograph, preview, recognised text, label or index. Declining keeps every other search mode working.

Free & Pro

Start with a real shoot, not a timed trial

The free tier itself is the trial: no card and no time limit. Lumo Pro removes the culling limits and unlocks the complete local workflow.

FAQ

Lumo, plainly answered

Does Lumo upload my photos?

No. Analysis runs on your device. Lumo has no account, analytics or general network access. Optional Apple place lookup is explained separately and never receives a photograph.

Will Lumo delete photos automatically?

Never. Nothing moves or is deleted until you confirm it, deletions go to Trash by default, and quick deletes can be undone for 30 seconds.

Does it replace Lightroom?

No. Lumo comes before Lightroom, Capture One or Photoshop: it is the private selection, search and composition workspace between capture and editing.

What happens when free culls run out?

You keep everything already reviewed, together with browsing and every safety control. Unlimited culling, search, composition and delivery require Lumo Pro.

What if I cancel Pro?

Completed reviews remain readable and originals are always yours. Search indexes and composition recipes are not deleted; they pause and resume if Pro is restored.

Which camera formats are supported?

Canon CR2/CR3, Nikon NEF, Sony ARW, Fujifilm RAF, Panasonic RW2, Olympus ORF, DNG, Pentax PEF, Samsung SRW and Hasselblad 3FR, plus JPEG, PNG, HEIC/HEIF and TIFF where supported by the system renderer.
